It's a muffler for the "in" sode of the engine.

See that other thread for how to find it, etc, but you've already got one, it's a stock part.
Some guys have taken them off or modded them, myself included, with minimal results, I'd estimate 0 rwhp gain, some additional intake noise at WOT, but I don't even notice it now.
