Man, I don't know what to say. Using a VISA credit card, the most strigent safety precautions I have been faced with are 1) shipping address must be same as the on file billing address and 2) providing the verification number on the back of the card.

Providing my Social Security number when the seller is not providing financing? I don't think so. Why don't you call the customer service number on your card and see if that is even "allowed".....to make the cards easy to use, providers have guidelines merchants are supposed to follow....it sounds like this merchant might be exceeding established procedures.
