Emissions Inspection In Pennsylvania
Today I took the C in for the mandatory annual mechanical and emissions inspection.
The mechanical was fine, except the inspector (a personal friend) commented that the Contis didn't look good for only 15K miles. Kind of worn more in the center like they had been over-inflated. They were at 34 psi when I took delivery with 4600 miles on the clock. I dropped them to 30 psi shortly thereafter. Besides that the Contis are Contis!
However, the emission inspection was another matter. He ran the test twice as the test machine directed him to redo things after the first test. Each test took several minutes which surprised him as the tests usually only take about 15 seconds. Subsequently, a Hyundai Accent passed with out any effort, so the test machine is okay.
While the test machine passed the C on the second test it warned on-screen and on the printout:
"Based on the information gathered during an attempt to perform an Onboard Diagnostic test, NO signal was available from the Onboard Diagnostic computer system. This vehicle should produce a signal from the Onboard Diagnostic computer system. This vehicle needs to have the above problem corrected prior to next year's emissions inspection."
Have any other C owners here in PA, who have had their emissions inspections done by an independent garage, had this situation occur?
I will be calling my stealership tomorrow to get their explanation of this one!
