I believe that most reputable tire shops will not patch a Y or W speed rated tire depending on wear the puncture is. I've had at least 8 nail/screw punctures in the last 4 years. Unfortunately, I've become a pro at plugging these. My most recent one was a sheet metal screw that went in head first. That was a bitch to remove even with vice grips. I use a drill bit to ream out the hole rather than an awl.
