I am not sure a blend is better than regular oil. Weight for weight synthetic is not thinner, it's cold pour point is vastly superior giving the illusion of thinness. Cold pour can be appreciated even at room temp giving this illusion. This is why cold starts Winter and Summer, synthetic offers superior wear protection at exactly the time when 70% of wear occurs. I showed the arithmetic in another oil thread indicating the cost of syn vs reg oil is $291 over 100K miles.
