Come June I will likely be buying either a used 300c srt8 or a used charger srt8.
It has been many many years since I've bought a used car, so I'm not used to having vehicles with much more than 30,000 miles on them.
Was doing a bit of looking last night, and most of the 06/07 300s for sale right now have around 40,000 miles on them.
I know that really isn't very many, but like I say, still more than I'm used to. Anyone have a sense of how long these will go (engine and tranny) before experiencing any issues/needs for rebuilds.
Also if anyone has any insight on any major maintenance that needs to be done at around this mileage, it would be appreciated.
Are there any known issues with the car that one should look out for?
2006 300C just about to turn over 90k miles. I drive it like I stole it, but I don't abuse it. Never had a wrench on it except for normal maintenance (tire, brakes, plugs, fluids, etc.) I'm doing the plugs again, probably this weekend. I recently noticed the driver's side HID wink off and back on by itself, so I'm probably going to have to replace it sooner or later. *DO NOT* fork over $180 per HIB bulb + labor to the stealership, look up the German made Osram Phillips "D1S" 4300k bulbs on ebay.
90K isn't that much. If your engine was cared for, it's just nicely broken in! A Predator tune doesn't add enough extra power to significantly stress your motor. Go for it!
I have an 06 with 90K miles and really want to install a prediator - Do you think with this many miles on her I'm risking breakddowns pushing her harder?
Hey, I know it's not an SRT-8 with a 6.1 hemi, but in my small collection of Chrysler products, I have a 1966 Australian assembled Valiant (marketed as a Plymouth Valiant in N America). She's a stock standard torqueflite auto (A-904) with a 225 c.i. slant six motor, single barrel carby and has over 345,000 miles on the original motor, with good compression to all six cylinders. Generally speaking, Chrysler motors are made to last and with regular maintenance, a bit of care and not too much abuse, will outlive most owners! Buy your used SRT8 with confidence.
My 05 300C is just turning over 80K and is now "free" from the modification shackles that the warranty card carried with it. Have had a superchips tune installed on it from the day the programmers were available, no problems there. (Run mostly 87 tune in the winter, 91 in the summer) Brakes were replaced with cryo-treated slotted rotors around 40K, had probably 50-60% life left honestly. (Didn't like the fade with stock setup, and rotors were quite bad with building up pad material causing pulsing)
Just recently got a transmission filter and flush done, and will be going back to get my outter tie rods replaced. Knew that was going to be an issue with the way some of the roads have been in MN the past few springs, and only the passenger side is slightly loose, but large wheels make it VERY obvious. I'm most likely going to replace the sway bar bushings before I bring it in, in hopes that they will cure the bump noise I've had for probably 30K now.
Other then that this car has been rock solid, I've had it since 10 miles on the clock and I've used it for everything. Daily work, road trips, towing & camping, occasional high speed rums, etc. and I've never once had it do anything to cause me to question it's reliability. Love having one big car that I can do all of the above with and I am sure that this will easily make it to 200K without major troubles.
And the other big plus, almost paid off! (They weren't cheap in Dec 04, LOL)
Been very happy with it and I look forward to having some fun with the motor now that the warranty is toast! For anyone worried about adding an intake or anything, don't be. I've had a CAI, superchips tune, 22" wheels, + towing a 3000LB camper for quite a few years of it's life and never once has it really felt like it was stressed or even once acted iffy.
Enough of my rant, I'm happy with my car! And expect 200K out of it if I can keep away from a car payment.
Hey I bought mine brand new and it has had problems non-stop from day one, so now I just wish I had bought a secondhand one. As long as the services have been done, I figure its the luck of the draw!
