Depends on what you consider a road trip...if you are talking about a straight highway run of 1000 miles I can see your point. If this trip covers 1000 miles, but has various stops, lunch breaks, side trips to see sights, etc. then you ARE varying speed anyway. I won't touch 'maximum' speed (in case you consider limits to be 'suggestions' as I do
).
