I'm sorry if I've sent you on a wild goose chase for nothing - I think that its a case of my memory playing tricks on me.
My friend has an Ipod FM transmitter thingy in his car and it works really well, it is however illegal (why) to use in the UK (if that bothors you).

Xenon Dave , you are absolutely right about the single cd player not doing the MP3 thing. I'd been reading my CD manual in a cack handed fashion and misread the radio description title - sorry.
