Hard braking isn't so much the problem, but keeping those pads compressed (brake applied) on the hot rotor after a situation like that can cause warpage due to uneven cooling of those hot rotors, but that's the extreme situation. Your situation doesn't seem that extreme and I doubt your rotors got that hot from one application.
I would guess that it's most likely that you left pad material on the rotors, causing the same "warped rotor" feeling. Rambit called it.....do DJZeckhausen's brake bedding procedure before doing anything else and for God's sake, be careful when you do it!
Personally, after I have a hard braking situation, I try to drive for a while without needing to apply the brakes so they cool down evenly. Seems to work!
