Future SRT8 Owner On Board!

Hello all! I wanted to quickly introduce myself as the new guy on the block. I am no stranger to cars, been an enthusiast all my life, however due to a job change I got stuck with an Impala for my DD. I had to get rid of my 335i which killed me. I didn't want to rack up a ton of miles on it and pay for all of the up-keep. But, I'm back more than ever and I got a promotion, therefore I'm not driving but about 1200 miles each month. Time to ditch the Impala and get on board with the 2nd Gen SRT8! I am waiting until Spring as I live in the Northern suburbs of Indianapolis, IN. One reason is for the winter to pass. But most of all I hope to pick up a gently used 2012 for a little cheaper price. I'm so glad to be here and look forward to learning a lot about these cars! Thanks for the hospitality in advance! Two quick questions:
1. Did any of you buy used? If so did you get a big break on the price? I'm looking to be right at the 40k mark.
2. Do we know when the 2014 comes out? If so, do you see the 2012 dropping tremendously, or holding fairly close to the 43-45k range I'm seeing now?
Thanks again guys!

Thanks so much guys! I'm really hoping some good tuning is available. I really want to be at 500 rwhp. I'm assuming that with a good 93 Octane Tune, 180* thermostat, Intake, TB, and Full Exhaust it could be close? Although from what I have read, these "shorty" stock manifolds are pretty good from the factory so the LT Headers might be very minimal? I'm guessing these mods aren't gonna make the cut and I'll have to get the Intake manifold ported and polished? I'm kinda surprised at the lack of parts available.

500 at the crank wouldn't be a stretch but not at the rear wheels. For that, it's cam and head work time.

Prices will drop but you'll notice none of us can offer a good figure for what the prices will be next spring in your area. Market / lot prices are affected by a lot of variable cost factors that we aren't privy to. A slightly used 2012 may be a lot cheaper here than in your area due to business taxes, availability, time on the lot, price paid by the dealer, etc...My crystal ball, like a lot of other members here, is a bit murky when it comes to how the market will treat prices in the future.

Your best bet is to start checking prices in your area and compare them with KBB.com or NADA.com stated values. Then go with the one that hopefully will prove out to be a good buy for you.

Good luck and let us know how the search is goin'.

I gotcha Maddog..... Is the factory cam pretty conservative? If I were guessing I would say there is quite a bit of room for improvement. Guess we will have to wait and see. (I'm assuming there are no packages available yet?) Do you guys know of any shops around the Indianapolis area that has a good reputation with the newer Mopars?

Welcome to the forum!

As far as pricing goes, I suggest you monitor prices about a month or two before you are ready to buy. Pay close attention to how long they are sitting around too. The Cargurus website will give you a general idea of how long they've been on the market, but they don't typically have too many listings. You can also track prices at Carmax and some of the eBay auctions.

Thanks for the info about Cargurus. I have never been on their site. I always used Cars.com and Autotrader. Really sucked not knowing how long they have been on the lot. I always would look at the car fax when the title was transferred to the dealer. That is, if they have a carfax. Thanks again! Great tool!
