About To Pull the Trigger on a New 2012 but Want Some Advice
To the OP, I don't think you will regret owning the SRT after six months or longer. I have previously owned European cars and actually traded in a 2011 Jaguar XJ Supercharged for my 300 srt8 and haven't regretted one minute of it. It's the best decision I have ever made, I have owned a lot of cars and this is by far the happiest I have been with a car. The car is very well built and the best part is all the technology in the car just works. Gas mileage is decent for a performance car even with the 5 speed. I think the best thing is to drive it and your decision will be very easy then.
If you want the leather package and don't get it, you may regret that later. I nearly went for one without it and I'm seriously glad now that I didn't.
The 2013 Chrysler 300 SRT8 “Core” has a 6.4L badge on the front fenders (a first for the 300 SRT8), 20-inch cast-aluminum wheels with black painted pockets, and standard black Brembo brake calipers (also available in red). On the inside, black seats use the Viper’s “Ballistic” cloth inserts with black “Axel” cloth bolsters and door bolster inserts. Matte carbon and piano black accents surround the instrument panel, door bezels and center console. The engine is shared with the standard 300C SRT8. Performance numbers include 0-60 mph acceleration in the high 4-second range; quarter mile in high 12-second range; 0-100-0 mph in less than 16 seconds, top speed of 175 mph and stopping power from 60-0 mph in 120 feet. Eight paint colors are available on all 300 SRT8s: Billet Silver Metallic, Bright White, Deep Cherry Red Pearl, Gloss Black, Granite Crystal Pearl, Ivory Pearl Tri-coat, Jazz Blue Pearl, and Phantom Black Tri-coat Pearl. The base price is $44,990, including destination.

My issue with the five speed is the gearing not the durability. Although not as pronounced in the 392 there's still a noticeable drop in acceleration when shifting from second to third. It was annoying with the 5.7 liter LX's that I owned. On the drag strip I could hold my own with GTO'S and SS Cameros until the dreaded second to third shift and that's when I got left in the dust. I bet with the eight speed you'll see at least a two to three MPG improvement plus quarter times around a half second quicker. I'm sure for most people it's not a big deal. In fact I'm very happy with my 300 SRT. It will be interesting how much of improvement there will be when the eight speed comes out.

I don't think I could consider buying a 2012 SRT8 with the 8-speed and new steering wheel just around the corner.
I've had no trouble out of mine with the exception of failed oxygen sensors and the need to buy new tires for the rear very 30,000 miles (my supercharger is grinding them to dust).
As for discounts, I'm not sure how many of you got it, but SRT sent me a package with an SRT FLAG, SRT keychain, SRT patch (for my sweater) and a poster of the Viper, Jeep, 300 and Charger SRT models on it. They offered me $3000 off in the packet - and when I went in to check out the deals, I saw as much as $5000 off with lease incentives.
This picture is not mine. I found a pic to show you what I'm talking about.

I got the same package with the flag but no keychain or patch
The leather package is very worth it IMO very glad that I got it. Might be something to consider if your coming from an Audi which is known for their interiors.

SRT mailed those out to a random sampling of their owner base. Some folks, like me, got nothing, even after owning several SRTs.
It would be nice to have as many excuses as possible to stay with the brand.
One thing I was surprised to see is that the car only runs 245s on the back. Definitely good for kicking the tail out and breaking them loose but I am curious if these car benefit much by running a larger tire (and how large can you run?)? Obviously adding rotating mass is never a good thing, but if it adds grip, are guys seeing 0-60 and 1/4 times reduced?
