Nice pics, badgx. Do you know if the swirl motor, alternator and oil filter are in similar positions to the OM642? I notice the oil filler cap has been relocated and I await with interest to see what problems the new engine might throw up. Hopefully, may have to wait some time for this to happen!
Interesting article. The alternator does appear to be similarly located to that in the Merc engine, although the oil filler cap is on the opposite side (good). However, the dipstick is in a similar position to the Merc and follows a tortuous route to the oil pan at the rear of the engine. The item that looks like an oil filter housing does appear to be accessible from above. Can't make out where the swirl motor might be, but hopefully in a more sensible location than the Merc's.

what i found more interesting is that on one of the 'posh' marques getting this motor (not the 300c!), theres a twin turbo version with greatly enhanced output
Exactly. I suspected someone would spot that. It would be interesting to know two things; what the mods are and, how reliable the engine is then? Mazas don't have a tremendous reputation over the past few years do they...
This new system sure does make you work hard though; previously I always had a tab with the European threads and could see at once what was happeneing. Now, with all this jiggery pokery, there are several places to look...
Hi From Texas!
I was wondering if someone with a 300c with the VM 3.0l diesel could share the required oil spec from the owner's manual. Does it list a Fiat spec?
I have a 2014 RAM 1500 pickup with the L630 VM engine and on the RAM1500diesel forum we have this ongoing debate about oil specs.
Hi my daughter has the 3.0 diesel, its got got 144k in a beautiful smooth powerful engine, quieter than my 3.0 Amarok and she has achieved approximately 8.0 liters per 100k,,,
