If you have power adjustable pedals, try pulling them forward just a bit. It will pick up the slack in the gears that move the pedals back/forward, and eliminate the "click/slight knock" sound. My 2007 SRT did it all the time, until I figured it out.
I hear it when I release the brake pedal as it hits the top of its return travel. It sounds like there ought to be a rubber stopper or something there to deaden the noise when you release the brake and it returns to its original position.
I have it on my 2012. Definitely annoying and cheap especially since the back passengers can hear it. I have to check about the adj pedals. I'm thinking I found out what "Hemi tick" is also. I"m going to have the dealer look at both of those items. People seem to think my low beams are too bright also so I'll have the dealer check their alignment.
"Normal"? That's subjective. I bet if the car belonged to the technician who inspected it he would want that issue remedied!
Make a big deal about it next time you take the car to the dealership. There is certainly a simple solution to this problem, you as the owner shouldn't have to fix it, no matter how simple. Bastards!
i think what it is, is loosness in the pedal, if you push it down with you hand and release you can feel it move upwward then moves even higher like it slightly loose, i might try adjusting the pedals if you are able to in this car, if not ill call the dealer when i feel like it
My 2012 Limited has the sound as well, as did an SRT8 I test drove. Very annoying. Sounds/feels as though the brake booster is dragging on pedal release and preventing a smooth pedal return to the stop. I mentioned it to my dealer as well with no satisfactory resolution. My 2005 300 didn't do it, nor does any of the four other cars I own. Definitely unacceptable in a $46,000 car.
Just found this thread (sorry for the bump but I had to speak up) - and it's something that's been bugging me every since I test-drove my first 2nd Gen 300... All three I drove did this, including the one I ended up buying. Both with and w/o adjustable pedals.
The sales-guy at the dealer just gave me the thousand-yard-stare when I mentioned it. Ugh.
I like the thought that perhaps fiddling a bit with the pedal adjustment may help, but I'm not optimistic. I've just come to accept it... tuned the noise out at this point. :frown:
Thanks to you, I just found this also. My 2009 300c also has this "clunk" when the brake pedal is released. I checked the pedals briefly and it sort of sounded like this was coming from under the hood, like maybe near the brake cylinder? I have sort of gotten used to it, but I'll check the adjustable pedals as suggested and see if there is any change.
I'm sorry to hear about the brake pedal noise. It has been mentioned the noise is heard by all passengers, is it also audible from the outside? Is there any loss of stopping power?
Have you had an opportunity to demonstrate this issue for your dealer? When having an issues diagnosed, it is important for the Service Dept. to duplicate the issue to pinpoint the source.
I noticed the "clunk" when I slowed down to go over the speed bumps in the parking garage. When I released the brake pedal, I heard a "clunk" and instantly thought the sound was from the front end. After a few test clunks, it was found that it was just the brake pedal rapidly returning to its resting position. No big deal for me. Perhaps Chrysler could have put a rubber stop (maybe there is one) or a thicker one, but again, no big deal to me. I don't even notice it anymore.
I haven't noticed any loss of braking power. For example, I'm at red light, with brake pedal engaged as much as it's needed to keep car still. There comes green light, I let go of brake pedal, and here it comes "clunk!" as pedal raises to disengaged position. It is like it comes back to the highest point instantly by some spring action, instead of in more moderate manner (by hydraulics?) on all other other cars.
That is exactly what I have. Everyday and almost every red light.
But, if you try to push brake pedal to stop immediately while going a bit fast you will see what I mean. I get couple of clunks and feel small loss of braking power.
In my case (2012 bought on Apr 30 of 2013) the noise began after I drove it for about 6 months. Very annoying for a $30K car. I don't have any other cars that do this either. It's definitely the brake pedal; the brakes themselves are great. My dealer is deaf to this problem. Is there a rubber bumper on these things?
If this is an actual brake (safety) issue, then it should be addressed. If it is just the sound of the brake pedal returning to it's seated position, then lets get over it. Stick a piece of rubber where it seats or put a small spring on it so it gently returns to the resting position. If that is all the complaint one has with a gorgeous car like the 300, you are spending too much time looking for a problem rather than "enjoying the ride"
Not true. Why would I need to hear a voice coming from my brakes in every red light?. It is a voice that even if your radio is on you still hear it from anywhere in the car. Not ok for me in a 40k$ car. It is not something that we can fix cause the noise comes from under the car.
Paradox, your attitude is just like my dealer's. They don't want even to think about fixing little annoying things this. At least mine doesn't. It has to rise to the level of a safety concern before they get excitable and work to fix it. Why doesn't the OEM rubber bumper on the pedal last for more than 6 months?
I expect better out of such an expensive car. I've had much cheaper cars that have never done this in 30 years and 350K miles!
I am sorry, I didn't mean to sound uncaring. Perhaps my noise is not as loud, or things like that don't annoy me, or I am so old I am used to creaks and groans. I am just used to fixing things myself, and only go back to a dealer if I couldn't fix it my self.
I just got my car yesterday and the clunk is annoying. Mine was a demo with 8500 miles, 300C Hemi AWD, otherwise perfect. I will try the adjustable pedals.
OK, I just went out to the garage and tried the brake with the pedals all the way up and all the way down and the clunk is the same in all positions. I have never had a car that did this, there must be a fix.
Just picked up my new 300 srt8 yesterday and noticed this clunk sound when releasing the pedal. I actually thought my foot had slipped off the pedal for it to make that noise but it happened again at a red light.. wow talk about annoying!!
