Trunk keeps popping open...

Alaskan weather seems to be doing a number on my trunk. For the last several weeks, we've been at sub-zero temps in Anchorage. This past weekend a storm blew through town raising temps into the mid-40's. I think the thaw may have caused a short in the rear-trunk switch, so the truck keeps opening. Is there a way to disable that switch?

I was going to take it to the dealer today, but being new year's eve, the service dept is closed until Wednesday.

Try unplugging the harness at the actuator in the trunk.

I'll have to give this a look. I was hoping I could pull the fuse, but it looks like the trunk doesn't have a separate fuse or is the fuse for the Power Locks.

True. They tend to combine circuits at the fuse or breaker end.

Hopefully you get that fixed... I would have problems when i took mine to a car wash... I learned to dry the trunk lid area when i was done washing. I'm in Anchorage.

You might try some WD40 sprayed into the latch mechanism (up in the trunk lid) to flush out any existing water that may have gotten in there, and to preclude further water entry, that may be freezing and fouling up the latch.

After a few days and the temp dropping below freezing again, the problem seems to have corrected itself. The button on the trunk even works to open the trunk. I suspect the water in the button dried out and/or froze again, so I'm going to ignore it for now. I'll have to keep in mind to maybe blow out the button with air before any moisture freezes when I get the car washed.

Yeah! it's hard to find a carwash with air available to blow that thing dry. I carry a can of compressed air and hit it as soon as I'm done! so my button will work, if it doesn't i have no problems using the FOB!
