Sympathy Needed

My lunch bag leaked about 20 ounces of tea onto my seats. I jumped into emergency mode and for some reason my first thought was to take the seat out. So that's what I did, see below if your interested what a gen 2 back seat area looks like without seats. Glad I did, there was a pool of liquid under the seat in an area with electronics.

I was actually very surprised how easy they were to take out.

So I cleaned up the mess, soaked as much up with a steam cleaner as I could but in no way got even 25% of it. The liquid soaked into the foam. Taking it to a professional Monday to see what they can do but I'm thinking the whole seat will have to be replaced. The leather cover by itself is 700 dollars, foam is about 300 not installed.

One thing is for sure, the days of new car smell are gone...............

Umm m..Not to be mean or anything but why would the seat need to be replaced? You should be able to get the seat cover off anget to the foam ,is it shorting out some electronics or did it stain the seat ,just need more info.

Re: Sympathy Needed

There's no need to replace the seat. I had a can of coke explode in my car and got all over the seat. All I did is take some water with a tiny amount of soap and blotted the spot. I then let it dry and used a leather conditioner and my car still has the new car scent. Oh and its an 06. So don't worry too much about it.

Ditto here; kid dumped a full mega-sized theater cup of pop into the interior of our first SRT; took a while to soak clean and get it out of all the center console nooks and crannies, but it came out.

I always put anything containing liquids, etc on the floor, and we have thick winter mats with high lips on top of the OEM carpets. This includes grocery shopping; the jug of milk gets wedged upright in between stuff.

Tea isn't so bad. I've had friends with paint, milk, pop, you name it get dumped into the interior. Try getting the seat cleaned; you shouldn't have to replace it.

I was kind of being a negative Nancy yesterday, was super upset. Having it professionally cleaned Monday and really hope the smell is gone, it was some type of flavored tea....

I mentioned replacing the seat due to not being sure if the cleaners can get the smell out. The leather is fine but there is a small piece on the back side of the leather that has foam in it, so if they can't clean that part the leather cover would need to be replaced. I have high hopes they can fix this, if they have to do an ozone treatment for the smell I will probably loose any new car smell. :-(

If I got it right away it probably wouldn't have been a big deal, but the tea had about 4 hours to soak in.....

Opened my car door this morning (seats still out) and I can smell the tea. So the cleaners are going to have a good old time.

you need to put 2 boxes of baking soda in the rear of the car immediately that will remove all the odor

The leather should be no issue. The foam will be.

I'll send you some Sympathy, (you got your 300 around the same time as mine) but I agree with the above.

I would take the seat out like you did and there are plenty of products to clean leather. Leather seats are really very durable and being black, I would think you could get the spot to not show.

Honestly, I love the smell of most new cars but the 300 really has a smell of electronics and other man made stuff as much as anything.

I use Zaino leather cleaner on my other cars and not only does it clean and condition, it makes the cars smell what I really think a new car should smell like.

You'll get thru it Bro! Like the others, I have done worse...

Some sympathy for you Bro:
