Thought I'd add this again to the message board here given just about everyone who has a 2nd gen would have this issue.
Assuming you are using an android based smart phone and you have noticed that the messaging button is not highlighted and Uconnect doesn't read or sync your text messages with your phone.
There is an issue opened against the software for this, however, unless it gets more attention Google will not make any changes for the issue.
You can go the following link:
All you need to do is click the "star" on the issue. Google only fixes issues with the highest number of stars.
Basically Google has decided that moving forward MAP will be the bluetooth profile for messaging. However, it appears they introduced a bug in the software by removing the previous method for reading text messages, this being via AT commands. So at the moment, it appears that portions of the hands-free profile is broken. Our cars, and some others are impacted by this change such that the system will incorrectly assume messaging isn't supported by the phone.
It appears our cars (again behind the times as usual and despite what Uconnect support tells you) rely on AT commands for this to work and Google has removed it from the code. It appears many smartphone makers (such as Samsung) had removed this already. Motorola was the last manufacturer to include AT command support in their android phones, but as of the 4.4 kit kat release, this functionality has been permanently removed.
Fortunately, Google is moving forward to make the code in the phones more consistent across different phone platforms, so now is the time to try and get this fixed at the source rather than each and every user working with individual manufacturers to try and get a resolution.
So if you want your phones to operate completely hands-free, then visit that issues page and "star" the issue so that Google understands you want them to fix this problem.
Thanks in advance.
