Timing Chain Recall & AC Problem?

Had my Timing chain and tensioner replaced 3 weeks ago under the Hemi recall on my AWD 2013 300c. Now as warm weather is setting in I discovered my AC is blowing hot air only.

I remember hearing an unusual sporadic gurgling sound coming from under the hood in the days just after the timing chain replacement but it went away. I believe I would only hear it when the defrost was on. The weather was still cold so I never really checked the AC.

My question is if anyone knows if the dealer would have disconnected anything related to the AC when doing the timing chain replacement. Could there be a connection?

I'm taking it back to the dealer next week but I'm wondering if this could have happened during the timing chain replacement?

Anyone else ever heard a gurgling sound from their AC unit?

Thanks!

I hear hissing and gurgling should often, not only on my 300 but on other cars, my fridge, and central air. It is just the R-134 (or whatever is in the system) going from a gas to a liquid and back, just doing it's thing to keep cool. Most notably this is heard when the compressor cycles off. The compressor will cycle off and on during the defrost cycle, even in cold weather, to dehumidify air blowing on the windshield. Try your normal AC on a warm to hot day, and if it is blowing warm air, then something is wrong. Check to see if the AC compressor clutch is engaged. Haven't worked on a a Hemi, but I would not think the AC would have to be disconnected in any way at the dealer, but perhaps it was due to need or accident. Check the compressor first to see if it is running. If not, then the electronics to it are disconnected or the system is low. If you are sure your AC is not running, then take it back to them and tell them they did something. "It was fine before I brought it to you"

Is this recall for AWD only or something ? I don't have anything on my VIN for my 2013 300C 5.7L RWD.

The gurgling is as mentioned before.. happens every time. I've even replaced my water pump and burped/re-filled the coolant and stuff, still does it. Just a hot engine.. I wouldn't be too worried unless your temp is rising above normal..

Have you tried one of them cheap A/C Recharger thingys? ? .. I'd probably try that before I go back to a dealer. Hate dealerships..

I think the recall is for anything without a 2.65 rear axle ratio. Mine is not included either. But as mentioned in other posts, you know all the 5.7 are the same it's just the lower ratio causing the issue and Chrysler is gambling us with the 2.65 will not be affected until after our warranties are expired.

Crazy thing is, suddenly this morning the AC just started working again. I think I'll still take it in on monday and see if they can find anything since I have the appt. I'm hoping it's just low on refrigerant.

I guess I'm concerned a bit that it could be a blend door issue and maybe my AC was working but my blend door was stuck in the full heat position? When the air was blowing hot with AC on - it was really hot air. Not just outside temp air that wasn't being cooled. It felt like hot heated air? These models have so many problems with temp control and I often lose ability to adjust temp and have to shut off the system fiddle with things to get control back. From the many posts here it doesn't appear that anyone has found the perfect fix. What works for some cars doesn't work for others. Arghh.

Crunkz1, and yes as Smokey said, the expanded timing chain recall was for AWD Hemi's only. I believe the recall started years ago on certain models and then was recently expanded to AWD's. Hard to believe they would use a plastic guide for the timing chain in a Hemi.......

Ah yes, infamous blend door - I see that issue all time with it getting stuck here and there. Also people say sometimes when it gets stuck, you may hear it clicking like it's trying to catch and do it's job. Most of them just get a new blend door thingy and take a few minutes to replace it.

Weird though, I've never had the issue yet on mine, yet others have. I guess the blend door thing is more or less a hit or miss type of deal.. Because I change my temps a LOT.

"Blend Door Thingy" - care to elaborate which thingy (actuator) and exactly where it is located?

My problem is ac/heater only blows out thru bottom vents. Cannot get it to switch vents. Have looked at 2 actuators behind the glove box and they seem to be working fine - still turning. Where are the remaining actuators located? Where are the "lil doors" that actually open and close to direct the air flow located? I assume they are stuck. Air blows out cold just fine just not from the front vents.

Mine is 2014 300 base model and of course it is now out of warranty even though is only has 30k miles on it but have had for longer than 36 months.....hoping not to have to take it to dealer and pay a left nut for something that seems simple to fix if I can pinpoint where to look.

recently had the alternator replaced under recall. car went into shutdown mode...had to have it towed to dealer...not sure if a/c was already acting up before this or as a result of the alternator. Maybe it threw the a/c out of whack...but still leaning on that the doors are stuck...is there a reset or recalibration test that I can perform myself?

Thanks for any help.....

Went to the dealer yesterday. Turned out, the AC wires leading into the fuse box overheated and melted the terminals. Never tripped the fuse but that explains why the AC would work sometimes and not work other times.

Dealer was able to use a different slot in fuse box and rewire the AC so I wouldn't have to buy a new fuse box.

I worry as to why the wires "overheated" and if it will happen again but for now the AC is blowing cold and I got out of the dealer for a little over $100.

Has anyone ever heard of this - AC wires melting the plastic fuse box before without tripping the fuse? My dealer said he has seen it before on Dodge Police cars.

Thx

That's pretty weird ..

Thing about that though is, you wouldn't need to get a new fuse box anyway. I kind of had a similar incident with my Adjustable steering wheel / adjustable seats, the connections from power to the fuse in the trunk were iffy at best, and I could not get anything to touch for some reason .. I had a hell of a time trying to figure out why the fuse box / fuse / and wires were not working even though everything was plugged in the right holes.

Then it hit me ... Cut the wires from the fuse box, and run my own inline fuse. boom ... Now you have your own fuse doing the same exact thing as that fuse box. If you need to, you could run a wire from the incoming power line to the fuse box from the terminal with one of them ring things, then run your own inline fuse out to the other wire for whichever item.

Hey neonsox--just so you know, you can go to https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls and check any closed or open recalls on your vehicle! This will also give you more information on the recalls themselves, and if parts are not available yet for a recall, you can sign up to receive notification as soon as they are.
