I think the MDS feature will be dropped if the MPG rating is high enough. As many have said with the 8 speed I think MDS will be on and off to often. I just rented a 2012 300 limited with 8 speed and 20 inch rims.... and I just couldn't believe how much faster the car feels and the smoothness of that transmission. Now... if we could get that HEMI to have peak torque at 2100 rpm + 8 speed this would really give some of the big players out there a run for their money!!

The new 8 speed and Pentastar V6 only gives up .7 second to the Hemi (5.7) in a 0-60 race, likely even less with a sharp driver.

Gear ratios have nothing to do with MDS, expect it to remain on the entire lineup.

As with any electronically controlled gearbox programming is the key. Many expensive cars are already using this box, and it has a lot more torque capacity than we need, so it should be durable, too.

Anyone else notice that they said "4.7L" instead of 5.7L? Makes me wish I would waited out for a 2012 300

Booh. Just bought the 5.7 with 5. The 8 would have been sweeter.

Will it still redline at full throttle before shifting I wonder? 8 gears is a lot... Or at full throttle will it skip a couple of cogs? That's a lot of torque hammering that thing if you leave it to the floor and go through all of the shifts... I also wonder about its longevity.

Please read up on it here: ZF’s 8-Speed Automatic Transmission - Tech Dept. - Car and Driver

It will be durable because it is rated for 700 foot pounds of torque!!!

Yep. It really is better in every regard, and was the main selling feature for me on the 300S. As I posted in another thread, Chrysler is continuing to struggle to make the tranny work properly with the 5.7.
