Plain air would be cheaper than nitrous. It would have more nitrogen, therefore it would have more of this "buffering" but provide less power than NOS.

YES A SUPERCHARGER IS JUST LIEK INJECTING REGULAR AIR, THATS PRETTY OBVIOUS. YES INJECTING OCYGEN WOULD MAKE MORE POWER. BUT THERE ARE 2 REASONS WHY NITROUS IS USED AND NOT OXYGEN.
1. OXYGEN IS VERY VERY VERY DANGEROUS AND EXPLOSIVE. HAVING COMPRESSES O2 IN A MOVING CAR WOULD BE LIKE CARRYING BOMBS.
2. THE MAGIC NUMBER WITH NITROUS IS 572. 572 DEGREES IS WHEN THE NITROGEN MOLLECULES BREAK AWAY FROM THE OSYGEN MOLLECULE AND LEAVE THE O AVAILABLE TO BURN MORE FUEL. REMEMEBER NITROUS ISNT FLAMABLE. NO MATTER HOW WE MAKE MORE POWER, SUPERCHAGER/TURBO FOR BOOST, NITROUS, OR CUBIC INCHES OR INCREASED AIR FLOW, WE ARE TRYING TO DO THE SAME THING , GET MORE OXYGEN INTO THE CHAMBER TO BE ABLE TO BURN MORE FUEL. ANYWAY, NITROUS IS A LOT MORE CONTROLLABLE BECAUSE OF THE FACT IT IS USELESS( EXEPT FOR THE INTERCOOLING FACTOR, BUT THATS ANOTHER STORY) UNTIL 572 DEGREES. THAT KIND OF HEAT IS ONLY GOIN TO HAPPEN INSIDE THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER RIGHT BEFORE THE MIXTURE IS FIRED.
