A/C On-off switch

I did a search and didn't find anything, so will ask.

Seems silly, but the on-off switch for the A/C compressor (when not in auto mode in my 300C) does not indicate whether the compressor is off when lit or on.

The owners manual, oddly enough just says this switch controls the function, not what mode it is in when lit.

I have assumed that you would need to actually punch the button (and thus light up the indicator) to turn OFF the compressor since that would be the mode that is unusual. But still I wonder, and it is too cold right now to go see if the compressor turns on and off, and I can't tell while on the road.

Just wondered if anyone knew for sure.

Thanks
Don
