I maintain 32 PSI cold in mine. I'm in NJ so the temps have been similar to your area and I've been seeing a #3-4 increase after some drive time. F1s. And no, these tires DO NOT like these cold temps.
I'm not familar with the popping sound you mentioned. Sure it wasn't residual rock salt? That question is probably on par with an offshore technician asking you if your Dell is plugged in when you call to say you can't get any audio. But I to ask..
