Snow Review
|
Early this week my area experienced 18" of the white stuff over a 2-day
period. The roads were in various stages of conditions. Virgin white snow
in 6" increments over the 2 days, that you had to blaze a trial through. Mixed snow that I refer to as 'brown sugar' which is very slippery and sticks to tires like glue. And finally the thin layer of snow that blows on the road filling every crack in the asphalt, more like grafite....
After driving a 5 series for 5 years on snow tires and with the BMW stability system and having no problem with any conditions, I was concerned with what I would face with the 300 srt. I do have the blizzak DM5 snows on
18" borbet wheels.
I have to say that I got around town just fine. Interesting to see 4-wheel
drive vehicles having a bit of a time of it while I just pulled straight forward from a stop light. The system at time will allow some wheel spin, and then other times not allow any and retard the engine speed to keep you going. I have not tired to get the car to break loose from the rear, and will try to do so in an empty parking lot. The BMW would not let you tail spin the car out of control, which is more commonly knows as 'doing dounuts'.
Very impressed with traction control and anti skid features.
"if ya got em, drive em..."
