They are the same front to back, not smaller. The 295 is wider period.

Absolutely 100% incorrect. The answer is a pure physics equation, not up for debate.
If the car puts 1000 pounds of weight on each tire (exact numbers will vary slightly), then with 40 pounds of pressure, the contact patch is 25 square inches. No debate.
Drop the pressure to 33.3psi, and the contact patch grows to 30 square inches.
At 25 psi the contact patch grows to 40 square inches.
At launch, if you could transfer 500 pounds to the rear tires, you'd now have 1500 pounds on the rear tire. at 25 psi the contact patch would grow to 60 square inches. (hence the reason to try to transfer as much weight onto the rear tire at launch.)
