As to whats deactivated with ESP disabled, its this.

1. Traction control (compares wheels speeds to road speed, brkaes wheels going faster than what it should be)

2. Yaw control (compares steering angle to yaw sensor, mismatch triggers intervention)

Whats NOT disabled

1. BLD, Brake Lock Differential. (This means that the system will intervene when back tire speeds dont match. A burnout or drift should keep tires speeds the same, both spinning. )

2. TM, Torque Managment (This backs off power a bit during a shift, alleviates shock loads)

The SRT guys thought maybe that DP03, who comaplianed of the same thing as you, maybe hit the shift point during the turn, and the TM happened at the worst time.
