Hey Dave.
From first fitment I had the intake bolted to the outside face of the heat shield and connected to the throttle body. This is what caused most of the problems. The instructions did say to feed the tube through the heat shield and onto the throttle body but this was not an option straight out of the box. Out of the box it does not allow this as the (moulded) outlet breather tube (which then has the connecting hose that attaches the AFE to the motor) was to long and stopped it from fitting through the heat shield. So I bolted it up from the outside and found I had clearance problems. I was not happy with how the bonnet did not close properly (first try did not close at all) so I pulleddit all apart again.
To get it to fit and clear the hood the unit needed to sit across to the right more which would also lowers the entire unit. Most that I have seen fitted have had the duct tube bolted on from the front/outside of the heat shield when the instructions stated it should be feed through.
So I trimmed about 5mm off the moulded outlet tube and feed it through. Before bolting everything up properly I closed the bonnet and it all closed as it normally did. I therefore proceeded to fit everything else, finished it off and tried closing the bonnet again. There was a little interference. It sat a fraction to high still. I bent the tab down that bolts onto the radiator support and this lowered the unit another couple of mm. Perfect no intereference. The pics below will hopefully help to explain.
