I am pretty sure you don't have to change spindles. As for dropping the rear end to change the springs. Yes that is the easiest way to do it. Sounds alot worse than what it is. Reomove the rear shock is 3 bolts very easy. Drop rear one bolt and a floor jack. Total rear removal and install without air tools is about 3 hours for an amateur.
