When you say the "dealer", are you talking about the person who writes your work order? If so, that particular individual sounds very incompetent (not surprising as most of these employees have very little training, are not technicians and have zero authority).
Anytime you "smell" exhaust fumes inside a car, a big RED FLAG needs to go up! Something is definitely wrong! Your health and perhaps your life is at risk.
This is not a common occurance with these cars and is an indication that there could be a leak of exhaust fumes into the passenger compartment - which in our cars is very tightly sealed. Carbon monoxide gas is a killer. Your car needs to immediately go on a hoist and be pressure tested for leaks.
Speak to the service manager at the dealership. In the meantime, if you must drive the vehicle, make sure all the windows are down.
