even when they work they don't...

When they do work they only work every four triggers of the washer and then only for a frustratingly short period. Thus, if for some reason your lines to the washers aren't primed there might not be any fluid even though the pump is pumping (i.e. the pump isn't pushing fluid down the washer lines long enough to fill the line to the headlamps and then eject spray).

I'm not near my car right now, otherwise I would confirm the following, but you might want to check in the EVIC personal settings menu to see if there is an option to turn the washers on/off.
