stalling after gas fillup

Well it has finally happened to me. Car has started dying after filling with gas. I have read many threads on this subject but now it hits home. I have tried not topping off, filling very slowly, tightening the cap several turns and even leaving car running while filling (not very safe).

Went to dealer yesterday after filling car and have it die several times. He (the service adviser) stated they had another that did the same and after replacing the fuel tank it solved the problem. He called the company I have my extended warranty with and they said NO it was not covered. He then talked with DC and they are willing to cover half the expense of replacing the tank. I asked about this being a environmental issue as well as a safety issue and he said it would need to be engine or converter involved.

He stated the tank would be $500 and with installation my half would be $400. I told him to order the tank. I asked if the tank also included the purge solenoid, the canister and anything else needed. He said Yes.

I went from there to the car lot where I purchased the car (4 months ago) and talked to the business manager and they agreed to pay half of my bill.

So I guess it could be worse. But I must get this fixed. This is a huge safety issue when it dies in the middle of intersections while waiting to turn and nearly get run over. The dying happens several times before it finally stops. I love the car but this issue must end.

This forum has supplied me with facts to use when dealing with dealerships and for that I am very thankful.

Keep the faith.
