I have heard from some reliable sources that this is the main culpret. Something about the way it delivers the power and vibration. A couple of different "German" cars shops told me this.
For sure the converter and more power in general does not help with the weight of our cars too.
I would think with just nittos and not running them too low on tire pressure you would be fine for a while
