Painting tips?

DIY painting tips. Hello everyone I am going to attempt to paint myself up a nice ol OEM grill brilliant black except for the wing and logo. Are there any tips out there or threads I should know of where I can get good tips on painting it? Ive read rjkuss's thread which was a GREAT write up but I want to make sure I do a good job on the paint. now I know you need to get a 400 grit sand paper and mask off the logo or whatever you don't want painted. after that you put some kind of primer so the paint stays on..

What I was wondering was if :there is a certain number of coats you are supposed to put of primer, color, and clear coat? or just put how ever many you want?

also, Is there a way to get access to get a perfect match of brilliant black? or do I have to go to the dealership to get it painted and clear coated?

thank you!
