I think we probably go back to the fact that the screen coating blocks GPS signals (and perhaps other signals too - I am thinking maybe mobile phones). There are ways round that problem - you can buy a signal booster device which goes on any other window and retransmits the signal within the vehicle. But I suppose at the end of the day it is all down to money. Meanwhile pay a visit to a windscreen repair place and get hold of the polythene bag that any new windscreen comes in. Lay it across your windscreen at night and trap the ends with the front doors. That will stop your car icing and it is the right size - perfect for the job.
