Years ago, a popular accessory was a remotely operated radiator blind for such conditions. The blind coverage could be varied to achieve optimum temperature. I can also remember similar devices fitted to taxis; these usually had a couple of flaps which could be held open by press-studs to vary the amount of radiator exposure. Do such devices still exist in N. America, where I would imagine they could be very useful?

I've just thought of a brilliant idea for an aftermarket grille: The Venetian Blind grille!
