2005 cars were being built in January 2004.
I don't know when the 2008 car began production, but May 2007 is very possible.
tks joey, i think my main gripe was that when i started the purchase process i was looking at acquring a standard saloon which which i was told was manufactured late feb 08. The spec changed to a lux pack because the car they thought i was getting was actually consigned to another dealer. I was at that time led to believe that they thought it was a younger vehicle (implying it was built later). Upon subsequent asking of the same question the dealer said they didn't have the build date which immediately got me thinking it would be an older car (though i didn't expect it to be nearly a year old).

that said, the car is fine. it won't effect the value and as i've whinged on enough i'd like to reiterate my satisfaction with both the vehicle and the dealer.
