sounds like a tie rod. i bought mine new as well, but the sound only got worse over time, until i had both outer tie rods replaced under warranty last week.
if you have a floor jack, here's a way to test it yourself. jack the car up and support that corner of the vehicle on a jackstand. then with the wheel's lugnuts infront of you, put one hand at the 3 oclock position and one hand at the 9 oclock position and wiggle. if it moves a lot, you've got a steering problem. next, put one hand at the 12 oclock position and one at the six oclock position and do the same. if it wiggles when you do this, its most likely a suspension (strut/balljoint) problem, not steering.
