Steering Wheel Insert Removal
|
A Chrysler tech dug through some manuals and gave me the following directions to remove the four silver plates on the spokes of the 300C steering wheel so I could send them to Kingpin at patterntek to have them coated.
1. Most important step: Disconnect the battery and wait a minimum of 2 minutes before proceeding to make sure that there is no latent electrical charge in the car. Two minutes is a minimum!
2. Using a 10mm socket wrench, remove the two bolts on the backside of the steering wheel. There is one on each side of the column behind the two top spokes.
3. Gently pull the entire center section of the steering wheel towards you and remove it. This is where you want to make sure the power is disconnected. The tech said that a stray electrical shock could be enough to set off the air bag inside the center section of the steering wheel.
4. The screws, etc that hold the metal inserts should be visable.
5. Reverse the proceedure, just as carefully, to put the car back together for use while the inserts are off being coated.
6. He said that the only thing he knew of that might have to be reprogramed is the "auto-up" window feature if you have it.
