I personally chose between the 545i and the SRT-8.

I test drove the auto, the 6-speed and the SMG version of the 545i.
I own a 540i 6-speed already.

I challenge anyone to drive both and pick the BMW. The only reason to pick it is if you want a smaller car, and want to spend extra for the BMW logo.
Sure, you get some extra features, but optioned-out, it was going to cost $65,000.
