But that said, no matter where you put a strong magnet in the oil it will collect ferrous metals. It could be anywhere, just so it can be in or directly adjacent to the oil. Otherwise, they're all in the filter. I think you could make a case for having one in the pan, as you might then protect the oil pump from damage/wear from the particles. But either way it's cool to see them in tangible form.
Thanks for those kind words. Ahh yes, what you say is exactly correct. There is literally 1 small point to make. It's the sub 20 micron particles that pass right through the filter that the Filtermag holds (along with larger particles). Cummins showed the these sub 20 micron particles cause significant wear. In the real world it won't matter for us. Those Diesels made by Cummins will be affected at the 500K to 800K range by these particles, not an issue for us. I still use them anyway, I just move the filter from car to car when I sell.
