hey, I just changed mine out the other week for a leather/tortoise shell one (and I have the 07 base plastic too) I used the snap on hook pick tool and pulled that bottom part down from 4-5 different spots around it very hard and it finally came off. Just in case that you are installing a different shift knob like I did...I think mine came from like a srt8 because it was a short shifter, but anyways, you'll have to change out everything on it...that was a little pain, but got it done in 20 minutes.
