normal play?

I just took off one of my front wheels to check how thick my brake pads were and noticed a tiny amount of play in the front wheel. When I grab the one of the front wheels at the 9:00 and 3:00 portions while it is mounted and off the ground, I can wiggle it maybe a 1/16” of an inch. Is this normal?
I’m not sure if it is just some normal play in the steering mechanism or something else. It is really tight if I try to rock it at the 12:00 and 6:00 portions, so I don’t think it is the wheel bearing. The tires have been wearing perfectly normal, and my car drives dead straight even with my hands off the steering wheel. I’m just afraid to bring it into the dealer/stealer, since they might try to say that I need a bunch of new front end components.
