Any discount like that most denitely lowers resale values. An easy way to visual it is to look at an extreme case: if Chrysler offered a $20K discount on new 300s, a 6 month old C (no options) would only be worth $10K because you could get a brand new one for $14K. Of course, I used unpratical numbers; but, the underlying theory is sound.
Many businesses protect the value of their product by refusing retailers to sell below a set price. Discounting new merchandise always lowers the value of previously sold merchandise.
