HELP NEEDED: Wiring LED Halos

Hey guys,

I installed a set of led halos in my headlamps last week. I tried to wire them to replace the daytime running lights. I bought this: V-LEDS 9005 PLUG N' PLAY DRL DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT MODULE in hopes that it would up the voltage (~7 volts?) enough to run the leds. However, they only light up for the first second after start up and then die . If I turn the high beams on, they work fine.

Any ideas??

You need 12V+ to run the LEDs on. 7V is not goign to cut it, why not run them to your parking lights?

You can also run to a switch like so:

no what he is saying Justin is that norm on the DRL is 7volts and that device is supposed to up that to a level 12volts for LED and HID high beams..

sounds like something is wrong with the DRL convertor bro, contact the seller, I have that same one on my GF's Camry and it works correctly.

DRL module

Marc,

Is there any way to run this module with the 9005 HID kit? This way I could retain my high beams and DRL's? I seen the LEDs installed with this module and they look great "decoratively" but aren't functional.

Thanks,

Chris

it is supposed to pump the voltage up to 13.5 - 14.5v where DRL's are normally around 7v so HIDs at 7v flicker.. so in theory yes it would work, basically making the HID DRLs full brightness of the high beam.

personally I hate DRL's and disabled mine.. the Wink feature more than anything really annoys me

Thanks, I was afraid of full brightness lol I'm sure full brightness couldn't do too much harm during daylight hours lol Yeah, the wink feature I could do without also. Considering the DRL's shaved me a few dollars on the insurance I can tolerate them, especially being back in Texas with drivers who can't see worth a da*n!

Thanks for the replies. Yes, the device inputs anywhere from 3v to 14.5v and outputs 14.5v. I'm not sure why they work when the high-beams are on but not with the DRLs. I'm going to call vleds today and see what they say. I tried wiring them to the parking lights but they are way too bright to drive with at night. If this doesn't work, I'm just going to run them to a dedicated switch.
