I know this question has been answered, but has anyone had success in updating their Chrysler radio/CD player to the MyGig unit? If so what challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
It's plug and play. Just make sure you buy the correct mygig for your canbus. A later model mygig (2010) will fully support ipods. You'll need an adapter version lockpick. It won't do the nav audio directions properly but it will otherwise Navigate ok. ie, it'll show you directions in the EVIC. It may not correctly identify your audio source in the EVIC. It's not perfect and there's no way to make it so, but it's acceptable.
I forgot to mention the bezel. Easiest way is to grab a later model one from ebay. Get an updated version (2008 or later) and just trim the bottom sides to fit. A much better result than the earlier Nav version of the bezel.
make sure the mygig is a correct bus speed version. from memory it is the slow bus speed not the fast one. and get a lockpick ADAPTER which is made specifically for this conversion. plenty on ebay for sale.
i had to get a stereo shop to file down the stock radio bezel rather than get a new one. i preferred the original bezel pattern rather than the plain silver colour of the newer version.
you can file it down yourself if you dare.
also, as piggy says... the only thing that doesnt work properly for some reason is the voice directions when using the GPS. there is some setting/firmware issue in the amp or the mygig that makes voice directions unusable. basically it raises the music level higher and the directions softer ... i.e. it is reversed. we tried lots of different things, piggy and I but never got it working properly. i simply turned off the voice directions and just followed the directions on the EVIC or looked at the map for where to turn etc.
for someone who is so unhandy as myself i managed to install and get it all working perfectly (minus the GPS issue). it is worth doing but not cheap...
Ebay I suppose would be cheaper perhaps. But you need to research and make sure you're getting the right one. Then you need clockfix firmware updates. That's another story in itself right there.
hmm. must say i got mine cheaper than that. those guys that sold it to me are no longer in business. it was some guys in scandinavia running a website. i forget where now... i think it was sweden.
anyway, it worked very well apart from the gps audio issue.
