Australian 300C Hemi Fuel Economy

I left the suburbs on Saturday morning with a full tank of 95RON and ~630 Kilometres on the Odometer. Drove ~640 Kilometres trying to vary the speed, with periods of cruising speeds up to 120Klm/hr, a number of WOT overtaking moves and some grinding around Country towns/cities and traffic jams back in Melbourne (roadworks).

Trip computer showed 11lt/100Klm (25.68 miles per imperial gallon). Filled with 64 litres which worked out to over 28 MPG.

Therefore the Trip Computer is pessimistic, everything is still tight and I was not driving economically - the result is very good.

That sounds like a great result and I'm very envious of your opportunity to put so many K's on in one weekend! I still have not had the chance to get my Wife in the car for a drive but my almost 3 year old reckons it a "tough car".

I've managed a lowly 80km's or thereabouts since Thursday night and I'm burning about 22l/100km as it stands right now due to stop/start in city traffic and I'm loving the note at about 50% throttle and 2500rpm.

kinda makes me feel ok at using 16.5- 17.5L pre/100kms city
the first 100kms I did however were at 21L per/100kms city
Does anyone have a slight knocking noise in engine while idle that u can only hear with windows up in a quiet place? Normal and/or I'm paranoid??

I have noticed mine to be a bit "knocky" when cold. I seem to recall a thread many moons ago about the same thing from other Forum members reporting this "feature" and that it isn't an issue.

Slight tapitt sound I think.....I just dont like noises! if it's not really meant to be there I dont want it there, lol

I gave HEMI 57 another run in the country over the New Year weekend. Headed north up the Hume sitting on 111 Klm/hr up to Albury with the temperature showing 44 degrees C, then on up to the Southern Highlands in NSW. Two days later headed home and did a fill at Albury with the trip at 625 Klm, she took 70 Litres, which equals 11.2 litres/100Klm (~25 MPG (imperial not US)). Headed south on the Hume at 111 Klm/hr and she was showing 10.8 litres/100Klm, then I got on the Craigieburn bypass and settled on 100 Klm/hr. By the time I exited the Monash she was showing 10.2 litres/100Klm.

So it seems the Hemi is a lot more economical at 100 Klm/hr than 110. I now have 3000 Klms clocked up and she may still free up and get better as time goes on, based on other Forum member's experiences.

Hi All. Finally got the chance to take the beast for a good drive over XMas/New Year and was pretty amazed with the economy I was getting considering less than 500km on the clock when I left. On 95Ron fuel from Melbourne to Echuca with a full load of kids, bike, pram, cot, food and associated other stuff (all in the boot by the way) I returned a pretty good 12.1 L/100 based on trip computer and an amazing 11.8L/100 at the pump. Had the cruise set at about 105km/hr for most of the trip with a few splurts for overtaking.

Trip south down the coast over NYE returned slightly worse economy (13.5l/100) which I attribute to 1.5 hours sitting in traffic going absolutely nowhere...but a pretty amazing result all the same.
