Yeh I did check with them Turk. Their excess was crazy - about $3500 if I had a claim. AAMI excess is $500. Also Just Car only insure the mods for half of what you paid for them. AAMI insure them for the full price you paid. In my situation, AAMI are definitely the better option.

Thanks anyway .

I received a letter in the mail from BUDGETDirect on Friday. I logged on to get an insurance quote www.budgetquote.com.au and found that these guys are offering a premium about 300 bucks less than I am currently paying with CGU. Their telephone number is 1800 823 302.

Anyone got any knowledge of this company? Their insurance features seem very competitive, eg. choice of own repairer, rating 1 for life, "one of the world's leading insurance groups", etc..

Let's know if you check them out of if you know of them.

Hi Hemi57
My 300C is insured with Budget Direct based in Toowong, Brisbane (underwritten by Auto & General). They very helpfull to deal with. If you accept online quote they just need proof of your existing no claim bonus (copy of any current policy). Simply fax to them. My policy was set up in 24 hrs. Their product disclosure statement can be downloaded and read before you commit.
I asked for cheapest comprehensive cover & they came back with this policy-
no drivers under 40yr age for $840.00 annual premium!!! Signed on the spot, the only time I thought I was lucky being over 40
Age has it's merits.
Haven't had to claim yet but I liked all the features of the policy as you have already mentioned.
Cheers!
BTW I was paying $1100 pa premium to AAMI for 1997 EL Falcon XR6???
Can't be too harsh on them though. AAMI cheapest for our 2 other cars.

My SRT8 is insured with GIO. Had a claim about 5 years ago and their deal is still reasonable for a bloke under 40... I also have other insurance with them..

After jaffa posted more information on "Budget", it all came back to me .

This company jerked me around 4 years ago. I decided to park my GTS in the garage and buy a Calais to hack around in. I established the insurance for the Calais through "Budget" and took delivery. About two weeks later I was contacted by "Budget" and asked to provide proof that I had cancelled my insurance (which was with a different company) on the GTS. I said "WHAT???, I am not going to cancel that insurance as I am keeping that car as well". Their response was to re-evaluate the Calais insurance, dump me down to rating 3 and significantly increase the premium. I debated their rational for this with the person that had called me but there was no negotiation. BTW they refused to insure the GTS.

I had no other choice but to immediately establish insurance through another company.

I personally would never do business with this company.

My cousin works for AAMI, he reckons it depends on the mood of the person you are talking to as to how much of a discount they give. There is the 'base' insurance (regarding type of vehicle, location, being garaged or not etc) then they have quite a bit of leeway to discount that price if they so wish....its set up like that with most insurance mobs so they can compete with other companies, steal customers etc.

Dont forget to sweet talk

I just cancelled my policy with Western QBE because they don't allow any modifications. I was paying $1150 a year with a $600 excess. Because I've just had my exhaust done, I had to change companies. I did the ring around and found AAMI to be the cheapest. They will allow any modification (as long as it is legal and road worthy) and my premium is $888 per annum. I agreed to make my excess $1500 to keep my premium lower. The only catch is no one under 25 can drive the car. My Fiance is 23. She's not happy !

Hi Hemi57
That story sucks. Hope it doesn't happen to me.
"Budget" just needed proof of my other car insurance rating to validate their offer. Maybe they've changed because of losing unsatisified customers that have experience like you.
Seems Konvict is right. It's the luck of the draw who you get to speak to and it pays to sweet talk.
The true test will be when I need to make a claim. Will they live up to their promises?
Cheers!

Hi all. Having had AHEMI for 12 months this week (that went quick) insurance was due for renewal and suprise, suprise, CGU jacked the premium up by $190-00. When I queried it they knocked $100-00 off straight away. Could not answer my question as to why it went up so much.
Just thought I should bring this to your attention as a few others will be nearly 12 months old.
Cheers
