SRT Aus Pre- delivery

Hi to all,

This is my first post. I was hesitant to register until I had my SRT8 order confirmed. Its still not, though I'm told it will be ok?? but what the hell anyway... Its all foreign to me ordering a car with no price, no options list, no delivery date etc... I need to get out of my comfort zone anyway..

As I understand it....

The 300C SRT8 (2006) Australian version is being produced in Austria at a build of 75? with other right hand drive vehicles, it will run with unleaded fuel, has the 20inch wheels, has no factory Sat Nav nor DVD options and is not specified with a sun roof direct from factory. Most options available elsewhere will not be initially available in Australia and some would not work or gain compliance. .i.e SAT Nav, DVD, kickers...

The vehicle has not entered Australia and has not been viewed by the three large insurance under writers. As such insurance is difficult to estimate.

That being said, downward pressure is being placed on price by the Australian company though I would suggest most negotiation would have practically finished. If the cars are scheduled for May the build would have to have been in January.

If some or all of this has been posted already I apologise..

Srtaus ...

That's how i pretty much understand it all too. Would've loved the rear DVD option and sunroof as standard though!

Welcome to the forums srtaus and definately don't be hesitant to post here in the least. Ask away on pretty much anything. Someone's always here to try and answer any questions you may have.

I don't envy your position having to wait for something you've never even seen in person. It brings back memories of one year ago with all the confusion, rumours and excitment going on around here when the 05's were being built. I was like you exactly one year ago as the first ones hadn't been built even. It was near the end of Feb. they trickled out ever so slowly and it was a toss up who would be getting one. All I can tell you is it will be worth the wait.

As far as fuel is concerned, it will take 91 unleaded (premium). As for insurance, all I can tell you is in Canada (Ontario) it was very reasonable. They didn't even have the SRT8 in their books when I got mine, so they called it a "300 Special". I just got my renewal in the mail last week and it now says 300C SRT8. It was ~$1400 (CDN). Of course Austrailia will be different. I can understand the NAV & DVD not being compatable, but can't understand why the Kicker or sunroof would not be options. What system are they offering...BA6/BA7???

The system in our rigs is definitely the BA7, actually i'm fairly sure that is the standard system in all 300c's brought into Australia. And we do have sunroof as an option, just not the other bits and peices. I'll be getting sunroof and u-connect in my srt8, and maybe look at upgrading the sound system further, and will also look around to see what DVD's systems are around after market. Other than that i'm going to leave the car in it's stock configuration, i'm not THAT much of a rev head to want to tweak to beyond the beast it already is.

Thanks for the responces and the welcome.

I understand that the sunroof will be offered as an option however it will be installed in Australia.. Maybe by Hollandia or such..

I too could be without a car (like Dominc) as mine has been sold (gone in a few days) and my wife's is for sale. Kind of a vehicle "sea change" for all of us. ...Course the motor bike could use its cobwebs being scrapped off.

I had a look at the after market Sat Nav systems and must admit I still like the simplicity of the VDO Dayton/Carin series, like what I have currently.

I must admit I'm past the mod thing aswell....apart from the bike.. I do think that DaimlerChrysler should have got its act together on the Sat/Nav DVD situation though.. I imagine that by the time we see a 2nd or 3rd batch of 300c's they may have technicial issues of the past sorted..

cheers SrtAus..

SrtAus, a belated welcome from me too. So busy at work I missed my daily dose of the Forum yesterday.

There is a factory fitted sunroof. My 300C Hemi is fitted with that but my buddy snoopdolks had to settle for the locally fitted unit which he is fairly satisfied with except for a couple of hiccups where it stopped operating. DC HQ told me last week that there is a 85% take-up on sunroofs so it was likely all SRT8s would be spec'ed with them (first batch at least).

Brighton Chrysler have fitted up DVD and screens on the back of front seat head restraints. Nice job.

The production of the first batch of ~75 was spread over late January and early February so they should start their voyage to OZ very soon, if not already on their way. DC Australia have ordered just under 200 SRT8 on the factory for delivery this year.

Dom, the sound system is top shelf in the 300C Hemi, with 6 stack and Sub. The V6 does get a lower spec with only single CD player.

I rang DC HQ to varify this sunroof thing, and yes i was told that all srt8's ordered in our initial batch have come with sunroof.

Bloody awesome.

Hooray! Just had a car confirmed... Its a relief.

Hemi57, Yes I saw the 300C at Brighton Chrysler with the after market DVD package. The screen setup on that model looks dicey to me. Just doesn't seem to return back vertical. I nearlly took the screen out when I put the child seat in for the family test drive.. I also drove the car both before and after its springs were replaced, my wife watched the 300c DVD in the back with the 2 year old... I even considered buying the 300C as a demo.. Looks good with the wheels, grille etc...

Srtaus..

srtaus, congratulations. Is your SRT through Brighton? or did you buy through another dealer?

I played a little part in them hooked up with Pedders St Kilda to get the springs done. I know the guys there really well and they told me they have the springs for the 300C in stock now.

Interesting, I thought the springs sat the car lower. Couldn't tell much difference otherwise as there was good two weeks between test drives..

Yep! Brighton Jeep hooked me up with a light silver one and they were quite helpful... Hoping they could sort out Motorshow tickets, but no luck so far..

cheers, Srtaus.
