Holden Caprice SS vs. 300C 5.7

Since I live in Dubai and we have these two cars (holden SS and 300c 5.7). I thought I would post my question in the Australian section.
Well, lots of these SS cars have been playing with me lately, but I have heard they are real fast. So I didn't want to get my ass whooped and never played with them.
Can some of you in Australia tell me what you think if I ever tried to get into a race with either the Caprice SS or Commodore SS, would the hemi or the holden win???
of course I'm talking about the 5.7 holden as I heard they are coming with 6L new engines!

Pics man, give us some pics. All you folks outside the US have way more choices than we do. I think of Alfa, Citroen, Peugeot, 5.7L RWD Caprice SS, Opel and so many others we don't have acess to (well at least we have two Wal-Marts in every town).

IIkings, you had me laughing at first. We get a lot more choices that you in the US?? But then when it comes to the Euro brands you are right. Just everything else here in Australia is so limited for choice.

alik2b, welcome into the "Downunder" section. I am not sure about the performance figures for the Holdens but I reckon the Commodore SS would beat you due to the lower weight and slightly more power (SS = 260 Kw, Hemi = 250 Kw). Now I might be wrong on the SS power for you guys in the Middle East (& for the GTO exported to North America) as the engine specs are different due to different emission and noise laws. The GTO does get more power and is louder than the Aussie version.

Hopefully one of the other Aussies will know more.

according to wheels mag in australia, 300C hemi does 0-100kmh in 6.7
commodore SSZ auto is 6.8 and caprice v8 6.9
the 5.7 GM v8 is 250kw and 6.0 is 260kw...
but the 300C defiantely packs more weight.. a manual commodore is probably quicker as long the driver is decent...

youll have to give it a try to find out...

As expected alik2b, that is a sweet car, thanks for the pic. Of course GM can't possibly offer anything like that here, they rather enjoyed losing $4.8 Billion last quarter. I remember the fabulous Opel Calibre about 10 years ago and the Senator 15-20 years ago. Hopefully this so called Global Economy will finally open up here in the US.

I had the HSV Grange (its really quick) and was looking to update to the 2007 model . Which was just to late. I am driving the 2004 Caprice lwb until my SRT arrives.

You should have the Caprice lwb available in Dubai, is it called something different?. That photo is not similar to the Caprice model in Australia. . It looks like a commodore SS...

Anyway...

The Caprice has its acceleration limited by the luxuary transmission mode or plush as its described and its weight. You would get whipped by a 300C !!

Apart from the speed. You would find the Caprice (aussie version) to have a softer ride associated with the long wheel base and more of a driver/limo setup. As with brakes, transmission exhaust etc .. The Caprice has a 75 litre fuel tank and seemingly better fuel economy and a good towing ability. The LWB will make friends with those in the back seat as will luggage storage if you have a wife that travels like mine. The sound system is impressive as is the Sat Nav and DVD installation should you have those as options. Its a true luxuary vehicle.

You will have access to the 6.0 litre LS2 motor I understand. If its in the HSV format its impressive at 297+Kw. It is in the 5.0s (0-100Klms) for the short wheel base versions I'm told.

srtaus.
