Hi Spud. Yes, 22" are VicRoads legal. From what I read on the vic roads website, you can go an extra 2 inches in a series. Remember the key word here is SERIES. The 5.7 might only be 18, but since the SRT was released here in Vic, and it comes with 20" factory standard and is a 300c series, then you are legally allowd to put 22" on your car. I did and have it insured also.

Easy answer. It used to be ok but under the NCOP Victorian VSI8 advises that:

1. The overall diameter of any replacement rim and tyre must not be: - more than 15mm greater than the largest diameter tyre specified by the vehicle rnanufacturer for that model or vehicle series; or more than 15mm less than the srnallest diameter tyre specified by tne vehicle manufacturer for that niodel or vehicle series.

It's also worth noting:

The maximum allowable track increase:

• in the case of a rear axle with independent suspension-25 mm;
• in the case of other rear axles-50 mm; and
• in the case of a motor vehicle manufactured with a combination of front wheel drive, McPherson strut front suspension and negative scrub radius steering geometry, no increase in wheel track is permitted unless specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
• in the case of a motor vehicle fitted with a diagonally split braking system (i.e. one front wheel and opposite rear wheel on same hydraulic circuit), no change in the wheel track dimension is permitted.

What this means is that to achieve a 22" rim and stay inside the 15mm overall diameter AND inside the 25mm of extra track width you'd need to use a 255/35/R22 or similar rolling radius combination - that example lowers the overall diameter by 6.2 mm while widening the track by nothing.

Cheers
Russ

more than 15mm greater than the largest diameter tyre specified by the vehicle manufacturer for that model or vehicle series"..again as you say MODEL and SERIES ..so I will see what they say....Thanks

BY THE WAY YOUR CAR LOOKS AWESOME...mines black and hope to look as good soon... cheers spud

Thanks. I think all the colour range look good. It's just the little mods people to do satisfy their own tastes. I love black cars coz making them look hot is easy. chrome looks mad on black, that's why 22" chrome wheels are the way to go, lower it, tint the windows, exhaust if you want a little more noise and your ride will look like the maddest machine on the road. Enjoy!!

Russ to clarify.

Does that mean the 300C and the SRT8 are the same series?

The a Bridgestone Tyre centre gave me (confirmed with RACV insurance) is that the "holden commodore sedan (Calais)" is a different model/series to the "HSV Club sport" Could have been blowing the wind up me though. RACV also mentioned the sticker on the door is what you should go by for wheel measurement. If you replace the wheels it can void insurance without disclosure. They also want to know about anything that will increase their risk it seems regardless of Vic Roads statements..

Sorry if this seems repeating the obvious I'm a bit of a novice on this subject thats why I ask and check..

It is a bit vaguely worded I'll grant but the intent is for series to refer to a model line as far as I can ascertain from my discussions with VicRoads.

It starts to get clouded when (for example) you have FPV who are a manufacturer in their own right (as are HSV) because their product lines then become a series in their own right. The manufacturer code on those vehicles is thus different which is not the case with the 300C where the SRT8 is a manufacturer variant.

Mind you it is a debatable point.

Cheers
Russ
