Just further to the previous post, i spoke to someone who recommended i not mess around with the chrysler headunit, that i instead purchase a chrysler dash bezel (fascia, dash trim) which is for that OEM nav unit, but instead of installing the chrysler OEM nav headunit i should get the Eclipse AVN-6600 which fits snug into the dash trim and gives me most of what we're after already.

http://www.eclipse-web.com/6600index.html

The car will look stock apart from the actual unit itself (which has a low-key look anyway, not too many buttons sticking out). It has navigation built in, dvd, is ipod ready, tv ready, rear-camera ready, and can interface with a bluetooth hands free no probs.

MAYBE we'd have to replace the OEM amp, but not confirmed on that yet. Otherwise gives us just about everything we're after. Price is expected around $3000 but again, not sure.

What do people think?

I have not done the install yet...! I already bought the VDO Dayton NAV's computer but I need the RGB converter for this unit to make it able to use aftermarket screen . I'm still sourcing the RGB converter for the VDO Dayton Navigation. I am planning to do the mod for the NAV and install the VDO Dayton Nav at the same time.

If Bezita, is listening, how did you go with your sat-nav install...?

Did you get it working..?

I looked on ebay and found a used US sat-nav for the 300C approx $1200 - 1600 but today there is one for $250.00
(don't know how to paste a web address )

Look for 300c radio on ebay.

I'm waiting one of the Guru's out there to make the import sat-nav work.

Can you find out if they have a Australian Sat Nav programme for that unit please? If not waste of money just for the other features as the Kenwood will do the same and is larger and cheaper.

ive been going through this myself and i think the factory unit is the best bet.

anything else is going to look aftermarket and cheapen the look of the car, you can get that tvnavtogo thing and that will give u a video line in, then put a vdo/phillips or blaupunt system under the seat and have it output to the screen and it will look factory.

of the two units you can get here the blaupunt is by far the best, better maps, faster unit, just heaps better

also im not 100% convinced the jeep nav cd wont work in a factory unit here. im happy to be proved wrong but i dont see why they would spend the cash making the system different in two different markets

Nah just checked my inbox, nothing there dude.

Re the headunit, i am not going to make any final decisions before i've at least driven the car for a few weeks. If the actual sound system is powerful enough for my tastes (i listen to a lot of music, mostly very LOUD, and ESPECIALLY in the car ), then i will only address the multimedia stuff, otherwise believe it or not i'm even contemplating going full boar replacing all speakers/amps etc. I learnt a lesson with my last car, i wanted an SS commodore manual in red, but i bought a black automatic S commodore, couldn't be more different! Did it because it suited my wife at the time, and it was there, convenient, quick, and i never stopped regretting i did it. So if the whole sound/multimedia setup of the srt8 isn't EXACTLY to my liking then i'm upgrading (with some invoices to be hidden from the missus).

Which factory unit, the one it comes in here? Or the OEM nav unit from the states?

I specifically asked the dealer about that, he said it definitely has australia mapped and working.

Dealer i spoke to was Michael at Maroochydore Car Audio, they own a 300c there and are in the process of upgrading blinging it all up. They're dead set putting a ****load of gear into their 300, and this is the headunit he says he's going with. I'm going to keep in touch with him over the next few weeks/months as i'm sure if there are any probs with wiring or anything else then he'll let me know.
