Multimedia setup for aussie 300c/srt8's

I wrote something in a thread on the main audio board but not too many replies, so thought i'd add this here. Probably more relevent here anyway, given that our stock stereo hasn't got the bigger screen, unlike our american brethren.

Ok so i want to modify the multimedia setup of the srt8 i have coming soon. Our srt8's are getting the full kicker 13 speaker setup, which is an upgrade of the 8 speaker+sub you get standard in the 5.7 hemi 300c here, i think this might be sufficient for the sound side of things that i am after so i probably wont change that at all.

However i do want an in-dash screen, which as mentioned above we dont get in australia. So i'm looking to do what bezita did and order the american nav headunit, but not run a navigation system through it, instead use it as my in dash screen (predominately for dvd and rear camera). I am thinking this because i am keen to keep the car looking as stock-looking as humanly possible, i've looked at eclipse/alpine/pioneer headunits that have the screen pop out but for me they dont work because they dont suit the look i'm after. As mentioned, I want the car to look perfect stock chrysler.

I will list the multimedia options i am looking to install:

*dvd (preferred location is under the front passenger seat, missus can change dvd for kids in the back)
*ipod (hardwired through the glovebox, via a custom made cradle in which i place the ipod)
*headrest tv-screens
*u-connect
*rear camera (to activate automatically on dash screen when car is put in reverse)

...and possibly live tv, and ps3 when it comes out.

I think it's possible to run a stock headunit through a vehicle hub (such as the design shown at www.alpine.com.au and click 'vehicle hub' on menu on left of screen). If anyone knows more info please let me know.

What do people think about this setup? Does anyone know enough about the nav headunit to know if it will be capable of playing dvd in a decent resolution? Do we have any audiophiles amongst us who can recommend a top notch dealer in melbourne who is capable of delivering all this without butchering my car? I dont want to deal with novices, i don't mind paying a bit more as long as i KNOW i'm going to get an ultra-professional job done.

Yes I am also getting the Kenwood but that 1 is the old model and the new model is cheaper. It has the bottons at the bottom of the screen and is 6.9" wide. I am hooking uo the new digital 15 channel TV box to go with it (same as ur digital box at home only smaller). Also going in is the new 150 degree colour reverse camera and Chrysler 7" headrest screens with DVD's. U can watch a different thing on each at the same time or 1 on all.

There is a new fully integrated DVD system from Chrysler Jeep, installed as an option. A new Sat Nav system will be available in some 12+ months, apparantly as an upgrade for the 300C also...

Sorry about the delay..

I was not happy with the 3rd party offerings. I asked the dealer on a status for both. After speaking with DC the dealer told me that the Jeep DVD system is available as a dealer option now, it was no before. The dealer also mentioned the Sat Nav situation. I have asked DC to come back with an interum solution for Sat Nav...

I'm might live without Sat Nav for a while if I can get an upgrade further down the track...

srtaus.

I'm with you srtaus. If i can get a genuine dealer fit sat nav i would prefer to go that option too. It will be interesting to see how much they charge for it as i know genuine manufacturer products you generally pay through the nose for. Here's hoping it's reasonable.
Cheers,
Shane

Agreed.... Its also good to have listed options for insurance... At least for those of us that will keep cars reasonably standard.

I was quoted $2900 for the DVD integrated system. That is with the nice headrest screen, integration but without Sat Nav...

srtaus..

Turk182, I don't know whenthe 6.9" is comming out, sorry..!

If Bezita, is listening, how did you go with your sat-nav install...?

Did you get it working..?

I looked on ebay and found a used US sat-nav for the 300C approx $1200 - 1600 but today there is one for $250.00
(don't know how to paste a web address )

Look for 300c radio on ebay.

I'm waiting one of the Guru's out there to make the import sat-nav work.
